Gold’s Gym West Georgia Members – What Is Your Story?

I’ve been thinking again about the changes we go through when we reach certain personal goals. Most of us anticipate these destinations as clear and certain experiences of self actualization, becoming the best of who we are. I believe this has been true with everyone of our Gold’s Gym members who have done what they set out to do.

They tell us something this important does not happen with a simple wish, but requires a soulful fire deep down low. The wish becomes desire and the first match is struck as the wildfire of change begins to spread.

We each have a story. What we tell ourselves about our story controls our destiny, informing us whether or not we are truly capable of becoming more. All of us have a unique tale of family, friends, schools, romance, marriage, births, deaths, tragedies and triumphs. This life-long drama has made us who we are. But story creates the lens through which we see ourselves and sometimes blurs the real truth of what we can accomplish. We must understand the incredible power we can obtain and look beyond false limitations.

What force is this that enables us to see through the mist of our past so that we come to know the divine power of self actualization in our future? Is it a whisper from the breath of God or an epiphany of the soul? I believe it is both, in that order, and thus we find the strength to change our lives and become who we are meant to be. We can do anything if we believe in ourselves. Listen to the deep voice inside your chest and take action. Then feast on your possibilities and know yourself again for the first time.

Gardening in Douglasville Can Give you a Great Workout!

Gardening can not only be rewarding when the flowers bloom and the vegetables produce, but it can also be quite a workout.  Gardening works all your major muscle groups. Even something as simple as planting flowers involves squatting, which engages your legs for support, your core muscles for balance, and your arms and shoulders for digging.  In addition, being outside is a great way to relieve stress and relax. Plus, sunshine helps boost Vitamin D production, which aids in the absorption of calcium. No matter what your project, you can get a great workout and see the benefits of your hard work at the same time!

Heavy yard work is a great way to add variation to your regular exercise program, while light gardening can be great for exercise beginners. If you do yard work as a way to burn calories, take full advantage of what the great outdoors have to offer:

  • Use a push mower. This adds intensity so that you’re working harder, elevating that heart rate, and burning more calories.
  • If you are raking up leaves, change the movement and direction to make full use of your muscles. Rake in front of your body to target your shoulders. Rake both right to left and left to right to work both arms evenly.
  • If you’re using a wheelbarrow to haul yard waste, soil, or mulch, take an extra loop or two around your garden before you set your goods down.
  • When digging, switch back and forth between hands so that you are utilizing both arms.
  • Instead of using a small watering can, heave the heavy hose around the yard with you. You’ll also have to use those muscles to put it away and wind it up when you’re done.

Springtime And Fresh Habits Go Hand-in-Hand

Time for Spring Cleaning

Springtime is a  favorite time of the year.  The trees are bursting with new leaves; flowers are beginning to bud.  The cold dreary days of winter have been replaced with warmer, sunny days.

Spring is a time for renewal…for fresh starts. It is an opportunity to reassess current goals. Examine habits that no longer serve you well and replace them with habits that are positive.  Here are a few suggestions…

Eat Healthier. Fresh veggies will soon be arriving at the farmer’s market and grocery stores.  Commit to eating one new veggie and fruit each week.  Plant a veggie garden.  Try a new healthy recipe.

Get Active.  Exercise. If you have not made exercise a priority, start by adding 15 minutes of activity in your day. Park as far away from your destination as possible, keep a pair of comfortable shoes in your car for that spontaneous walk.  If you have been thinking about taking that new exercise class at the gym, try it.

Eliminate Stress. Take some time to evaluate what causes the stress in your life.  There are some things you have no control over…so let them go.  Identify the items you have control over and establish a plan to fix them.  Do you need to pay more attention to your finances, or your relationships?  Enroll in a class; take up a hobby that you have talked about for years.

Be kind to yourself.  Let go of the self- defeating attitude.  Let go of guilt from past mistakes. Take time and enjoy the roses that will soon be in full bloom….

Gold’s Gym in Douglasville, GA and Austell GA have a team of nationally certified Personal Trainers to help you set and achieve your fitness and healthy lifestyle goals.
